There is no path to civilization shorter than education. Education is hope for humanity. Every child regardless of gender rightfully deserves a chance to be educated. There is an old West African adage that says, the ambers of hope glow in the hearts our children, meaning that the hope of a better tomorrow lies in the hearts of the children. This hope can only be achieved through education. There can never be a future without educated children. Through education we enlighten the future let alone the present. We believe something as indispensible as education should be afforded to everyone but perhaps paying particular attention to children. In the long run education helps to curb poverty, unemployment, drug abuse, prostitution, violence and civil unrest among other countless advantages. Education is so important to humanity that two of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were dedicated to its cause, namely MDG 2 and MDG 3.

MDG 2 seeks to promote at least universal primary education for everyone while MGD 3 targets to achieve gender equality and to empower women in the world’s education system. Key to our endeavor as an organization is the goal to achieve gender parity, adult literacy and promote both primary and secondary education. We will therefore be joining the Education For All (EFA) global movement being led by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

We also view education as an indispensible tool in peace building and community development. Education gives birth to enlightenment and sharpens people’s faculties of reasoning which culminates in peace and harmony. The role education plays in peace building was stressed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Part of article 26 of the declaration reads; “and that education ‘should promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups”. Education can be used to foster the culture of tolerance and friendship in the society this is why education it is very important to the Friendly Society and our mission.

When you give someone education you are giving them a life, decency, dignity and a future.
