My name is Kundai, I live in Epworth. My parents went to South Africa in 2014. I look after my two siblings, my grandmother, and myself. Our parents left us in the custody of our relatives who however told us that they could not look after us anymore. I took my siblings to our parents’ stand where we are living right now. I do piece jobs for people to get money for food. I no longer go to school, at first I would manage to send my two siblings to school while I worked for people but things got tougher, they have stopped going to school as well. I wash people’s plates and clothes as well as clean houses to get money. These jobs are not easy to find because most of the people tell me that I am too young to do the work properly.
Our parents have not communicated or checked on us since they left. I was doing Grade 6 then and I could not proceed to Grade 7.
I used the little money I recently got to send my siblings to Mutoko to stay with my grandmother. My grandmother is too old to do anything, she can hardly walk without the aid of a walking stick.
My siblings are 8 and 11 years old.
Apart from money for food, school fees, and upkeep I am also worried about the men that are always lurking.
Sometimes they would come while I was cooking outside so I would take my pots inside and go to neighbors’ houses. At times they came to my door calling my name. When they did that I screamed for help. This went on for some time until I was advised to report the matter to the police. They have since stopped.
I want to go back to school, learn, and pass so that I get a proper job and look after my siblings. I am not sure if our parents are still alive but people have been telling me that they are still alive. If they come back I will be happy and I will still love them because they are my parents.
